Excellent WW2 shooter - lives up to *all* the hype.

I put off buying this for a while as there are so many good FPS games due out in the next few months. Finally I couldnt resist the rave reviews any longer and bit the bullet. I have to say this is the best games purchase I have made in a very long time. This game is packed with authenticity, attention to detail and outrageously brilliant gameplay. I just lapped this up - its like being in a good war movie. The graphics are excellent, with a cracking game engine and it runs stable as a rock on my (2 year old) PC. Sound effects are fantastic, voice dialogue is quite well-acted and the variation in characters and NPCs is refreshing. I thought the high points of the single-player campaign were the Brecourt Manor assault (straight out of Band of Brothers) in the US campaign; the Pegasus Bridge assault and defence in the British campaign; and the highlight of all is the Stalingrad defence from the Russian campaign. The action is multi-layered, frenetic, and truly adrenaline-pumping. The only downside is that weapon sounds are so brilliantly rendered that if you have invested in a 5.1 setup, you will crank it up and let the room shake around you, resulting in partial deafness! (Sorry neighbours!) The greatest plus from the single-player point of view is that COD finally has cracked the problem which plagues previous squad-based games, namely the incomprehensible and erratic team AI (Battlefield 1942 the obvious culprit!!). In COD, your teammates take initiative, pick their targets and generally manage to stay out of each others way and avoid blending with the scenery. Lead, and they follow, providing proper covering fire; alternatively, you can lag back a bit and they will clear a way ahead and provide holding positions for you to exploit. It is by far a superior game to MOH or BF 1942. I havent tested multiplayer sufficiently to draw an educated judgement, but at this stage I feel that MOH Spearhead or RtCW (Enemy Territory) just about edges it in gameplay, although COD obviously looks and sounds better. This is a fantastic game that you will keep playing long after youve forgotten Medal of Honor. Buy this now!

WOW! Absolutely Stunning!

I pre-ordered this game after playing the demo, which I was very impressed with. The game itself is just a masterpiece, from the jaw droppingly good graphics to the clever AI. Particular scenes just take your breath away, such as the the first mission in Stalingrad as a Russian soldier, which is like the beggining of the film Enemy at the Gates, through to the tank battle at Kursk. I think this is without doubt the greatest game to hit the PC yet. I should imagine that you require a good graphics card to admire the true quality and smoothness of the game, I have an Athlon XP1700 and a G-Force 4 Titanium 128mb card, and it runs like a dream with very high detail settings. The only sour point to this game is that its maybe a little too short, I completed it on normal difficulty in around 12 hours of total gameplay, about a week playing a couple of hours per night. However If you have a broadband connection, you can then make use of the fantastic multi player option over the net. This I will never get bored with as you face a different human challenge every time you link up. Lets hope Activision are already underway with the expansion pack. Fantastic in every sense.

Definitely "The Most Intense WWII Shooter Ever!"

Were now entering an age where PC GAMES truly are becoming jaw droopingly amazing, and Call Of Duty, in all respects, is simply The Best Of The Best Call of Duty simply makes the MOH games look like something from the Stone Age! COD has everything an action gamer could want. Im running a medium-high-spec machine, and the Graphics at a resolution of 1280*1024 are nothing short of stunning. The textures are very detailed, and the scenery in some missions is beautiful. The game designers really have put in unbelievable attention into the detail of some objects and scenes. There are a large variety of locations too, I wont ruin it for you by listing them... but thats coming from someone who is only half way through the game! The AI are very intelligent too, Its annoying when you turn around and find them ramming their weapon in your face! The sound, Im running a 5.1 speaker setup, and Its the first game that seems to actually use surround sound. In some of the scenes, I could swear I was sitting in a room placed right in the middle of a battlefield! As another reviewer mentioned, the soldiers dont sound like some random programmer rambling on... theyve got some excellent, realistic dialogue in the game too. I also love the variety of missions, and the experience of the fighting war as an American, a Russian... and Im told theres a British section as well. (Im only at the Russian bit at the moment) Its a pity they didnt include any doors in the game, but Its also helpful because you wont get easily lost in missions. I havent tried multiplayer mode yet, but Im told that its a bit unrealistic because players jump around like rabbits (which obviously is a bit fake) And the ability to only carry a limited amount of weapons is good too. The game truly captures the chaotic and evil qualities of war, without sacrificing the realism of the game. I cant think of a game that beats this, its unbelievably gripping, entertaining and addictive. Can I also suggest that you dont play the campaign with the easiest difficulty level? People always complain about how short games are, well If you actually give yourself a challenge its much more fun and relieving when you complete levels. Trust me, if you want more realism, more fun and more of a challenge go for the medium difficulty.
